Road Trip Treasure Hunt, Club Activity Highlight ANA’s 2010 National Coin Week
The 87th annual National Coin Week, April 18-24, is a great opportunity to spread the joys of the hobby in the community. The theme for this year’s event is “Beautiful Places: Landmarks and Mintmarks,” and activities will celebrate the beautiful and historic places that have inspired designs on coins and paper money.
A “Road Trip” treasure hunt is now underway, taking participants on a virtual cross-country adventure from West Coast to East Coast. The ANA is providing a weekly clue on www.money.org and via e-mail for each of the 10 numismatic items needed to complete the hunt. The first clue was posted on February 15, with new clues posted each Monday until April 19. Participants who complete the road trip can register their findings online in April to be entered in a prize drawing for a 1/2 ounce gold coin (revealed during the trip), 2010 proof sets, ANA memberships and other prizes. To receive weekly clues, e-mail ncw@money.org or get clues online at www.money.org.
An activity testing the numismatic knowledge of ANA member clubs is also available. The challenge includes 15 questions that will require club members to do research. Answers are due at ANA headquarters by the end of April; all clubs who achieve the high score enter a drawing to receive prizes, including a 1999 Yellowstone National Park silver dollar honoring the first U.S. National Park (1872), a selection of numismatic objects from 1872, 2010 proof sets, and more. Clubs that participate will also be recognized in The Numismatist. To register your club and receive the activity and fun promotional materials, e-mail ncw@money.org.
The ANA encourages hobbyists to reach out in their communities and promote hobby. There are promotional resources available on www.money.org, including a proclamation, sample press release, and interactive brochure (type your club’s activities into the document, print and distribute).
Every year during the third full week of April, the ANA and its members celebrate National Coin Week with exhibits, educational resources, presentations and other activities at civic centers, libraries and schools to let the world know about the joys of collecting and studying coins and other forms of money. To get involved in the celebration of 2010 National Coin Week, call 719-482-9814, e-mail ncw@money.org or visit www.money.org.
