Southeast clubs listen to presentations, have show n tells

ALABAMA

Madison County Coin Club had a talk by Robert Jaques on “Examples of WWII Philippine Guerilla Currency.” Robert Jozefiak received the Adna G. Wilde Jr. Award.

 

South Baldwin Numismatic Society had a successful show August 9 & 10th. The crowds were good and the dealers did well. Robert Jenkins gave a talk on “Security at Shows.” The club’s website is up and running at www.foleycoinshows.com 

 

FLORIDA

Ancient City Coin Club had a program on “V.D. Brenner and an Overview of Lincoln Cents” by CL Wyatt. There was a show n tell with new purchases from Summer FUN. Thirty-two members were present.

 

Brandon Coin Club had 42 members at its last meeting. The July show was very successful and the club’s next show is November 1st. There was a raffle and auction.

 

Casselberry Coin Club had Tom Palmer speak on “Type Set Collecting.” He spoke specifically on half cents thru three-cent pieces. BJ Neff spoke on the counterfeit slabbed coins, followed by the auction.

 

Central Florida Coin Club had a YN program on “Foreign Paper Money.” The club is preparing for their fall coin show, September 26-28th.

 

Florida Token Society will meet in Orlando, Saturday September 13th at the Denny’s restaurant, 9800 International drive at 10 a.m. Buy, sell and trade, followed by lunch then a business meeting, show n tell, and the donation auction.

 

Ft. Lauderdale Coin Club had a program on “Morgan & Peace Dollars” by Greg Wagner. Jaci Newmark spoke on the Gold Kennedy coin sold at the ANA.

 

Ft. Walton Beach Coin Club had 70 members at its last meeting. Max Dawkins gave a program on “Little Half Sisters,” U.S. half cents.

 

Gold Coast Coin Club studied the ANA program, “Introduction to Numismatics.”

 

Greater Daytona Coin Club had CL Wyatt speak on “How Well do you Know your State Quarters.” Bob Hawes showed world currency.

 

Greater Jacksonville Coin Club had a program on “Jefferson Nickel- Update” by Richard Bousquet. Jim Duff spoke to the YN’s on “Uncirculated vs. Proof Coins.”

 

North Lake Coin & Currency Club is looking for a new president and vice-president. They had a raffle and 50/50 drawing followed by the auction.

 

Greater Ocala Coin Club had its club picnic with 28 in attendance. Rick Bretz had a program on “Pedigreed Coins,” whether from famous collectors or hoards. They had a 50/50 drawing and the auction.

 

Palm Beach Coin Club donated 60 pounds of world coins (4500 pcs.) to L.C. Swain Middle School Coin Club for their upcoming year. Tony Swicer and Sandy Pearl reported on the ANA in Chicago. Carole Marshall, Sam Yambo and Richard Spencer spoke about their trip to the ANA Summer Seminar.

 

Sarasota Coin Club had 33 members at its last meeting. Philip Walski gave a program on “U.S. Coins.” Fiftieth anniversary club medals are still available in silver, goldine and copper. The set is $45.

 

South Brevard Coin Club had a program on “Metal Detecting & Treasure Hunting” by Bob Mellor and several members participated in the show n tell. They had a film on counterfeiting followed by which of the eight coins is counterfeit? All but one was counterfeit.

 

 Tampa Bay Coin Club signed up three new members and had a program on “Indian Head Quarter Eagles” by Mr. Omeara, followed by the auction.

 

Treasure Coast Coin Club had a “Numismatic Trivia Night,” followed by the auction.

 

Venice Coin Club had 29 at their last meeting. Phill Kolbe had the program, “Guess the mystery Country” An 8-year-old, Wyatt Duyn guessed correctly. The auction followed.

 

West Hernando Coin Club had a successful coin show in June with good attendance. Brian Valle was there from the “IKE Group” and Skip Fassari represented ICG at the show. The next show is November 22nd.

 

GEORGIA

Augusta Coin Club had 50 people at their last meeting and Arno Safran spoke on “Collecting Certified Coins of the Great Depression, the Early 1930s.” The club had a show n tell, raffle and the auction.

 

NORTH CAROLINA

Lower Cape Fear Coin Club had their summer picnic August 13th with a BBQ and all the fixin’s.

 

TENNESSEE
