Winners Announced for 2007 National Coin Week Theme Contest

“The Presidents Are Coming!,” submitted by Berwyn Seelye of Ostego, Mich., has been awarded first place in the American Numismatic Association’s National Coin Week theme contest. Seelye’s winning entry, a tribute to the upcoming U.S. Mint Presidential dollar series, earned him a one ounce gold American Buffalo bullion coin. “The Presidents Are Coming!” will be the theme of 2007’s National Coin Week, held April 15-21.

The second-place prize, a one-half ounce gold American Eagle bullion coin, went to James Newhouse of Milwaukee, Wis., for his entry, “History in Your Hands”; and third place was awarded to Ed Bridges of West Richland, Wash., for “A Pocketful of Change, A Handful of History.” Bridges received a one-quarter ounce gold American Eagle bullion coin.

In September, the ANA announced a contest seeking themes for the upcoming National Coin Week. Approximately 120 suggestions were submitted to the ANA Board of Governors for consideration. The ANA congratulates the winners and thanks everyone who submitted themes.

Each year during the third full week of April, collectors celebrate ANA-sponsored National Coin Week with exhibits, presentations and other activities at civic centers, libraries and schools designed to convey the fun of studying coins, paper notes, and other forms of money. Each year a theme is chosen to engage people in learning more about money¹s role in culture, art, history and science. Past themes include “A Penny Saved is History Learned” and “Faces of Time.”
